Jorge García Arias. Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Leon (Spain) and a Research Associate in the Department of Development Studies at SOAS, University of London (Uk).
Originally trained as an economist (BA in Economics and PhD in European Economics), his main research topics lie in the intersections between Critical Development Studies, International Political Economy and Critical Political Economy, with a geographical focus on Latin America, the EU and the ASEAN.
Jorge has been a visiting scholar at the Institute of Latin American Studies (Uk), the School of Oriental and African Studies (Uk), Roskilde University (Dk), the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Nl), and the London School of Economics and Political Science (Uk), among many others. He is the author of more than 30 academic publications released in national and international journals. He has been a member of the Academic Experts Committee to inform the Spanish position in the III United Nations Conference in Financing for Development (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2015), an external academic consultant to the Secretaría General Iberoamericana (SEGIB), a member of the Outer International Assessment Board for the Irish Research Council (IRC) to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), and has served as a member of the Editorial Board to Revista de Economía Mundial (SSCI) and Revista de Economía Crítica.
Jorge is a member of the Academic Committee of the MA in International Cooperation and Development at the Universities of Burgos, Leon, Salamanca and Valladolid (an Inter-university Program), a member of the Solidarity Finance and Human Development Chair (Uva), and has served as an external referee to the MA in Political Economy and Sociology of Development (SOAS, Uk). Jorge has lectured more than 15 different subjects in almost a dozen of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
