From September 8th to 12th, 2024, we attended the 19th International Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environmental Systems (SDEWES), organized by the University of Zagreb, the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon, and Sapienza University of Rome. The event took place in the historic city of Rome and brought together nearly 700 scientists, researchers, and sustainable development experts, fostering a fruitful exchange of knowledge.

The conference addressed a wide range of sustainability-related topics, including energy systems integration, smart city design, climate policies, renewable technologies, and the circular economy. These themes encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration to tackle the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. The event was structured into various parallel sessions, which included oral presentations, scientific posters, special sessions, four keynote plenary lectures, and two expert panels.

This year, our team participated in the conference with the oral presentation of a research paper on the use of hydrogen in the industrial sector. In this study, a dynamic model analysis was conducted to assess various scenarios in the context of the energy transition. The presentation was delivered by our researcher Juan M. Campos, who highlighted the evolution of hydrogen in non-energy applications within the industry. His talk provided valuable insight into how hydrogen can drive sustainability and transform industrial sectors across Europe. This work strengthens the contribution of GEEDS to advancing knowledge on sustainable hydrogen applications.
