As part of the dissemination efforts of the MEDEAS project, the Research Group in Energy, Economics, and Systems Dynamics (GEEDS) at the University of Valladolid was tasked with conducting a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).

Preparations began at the end of 2018, and the result was the course entitled “Simulation models for the design of transition paths towards a sustainable society.” This course draws on the knowledge acquired during the years of the “Modeling the Energy Development under Environmental and Socioeconomic Constraints” (or simply MEDEAS) project. Through this project, a new computational model was created capable of defining the future of the European energy system, taking into account both physical and social constraints.

To this end, the MEDEAS project has developed an advanced modeling tool for creating, modifying, and testing policies that can support the transition to a more sustainable European energy system based on renewable energy sources.

Well, the course, which is part of this aforementioned objective, aims, through its twelve topics, to help students acquire certain skills in the use of simulation tools for integrated assessment models (IAMs) designed to guide decision-making regarding energy, economics, and the environment.
